Susanna Myllylä was born in Tampere, where she lived until 2018. Currently she is a researcher and author living and working in Valkeakoski, Finland. She is also Adjunct Professor in Environmental Policy (Environmental Justice and Local Communities) at the University of Eastern Finland.

In her trips to Ethiopia, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, Brazil, India and Greece, Myllylä has carried out documentary photography. Sustainable development has been a central theme in Myllyläʼs work. Hence her photography aims at bringing forth social and urban developmental questions to closer scrutiny.

Myllyläʼs photographic works have been displayed in several private and group exhibitions in Chemnitz (Germany), Tampere, Helsinki and Jyväskylä galleries. In addition, her documentary photographs have been published in Finnish and international scientific books and journals.

Myllylä is one of the nine members of the Tampere Doc -photography group. In May 2019, its first exhibition took place in the city of Chemnitz, as part of the Twin City program and the European Capital of Culture application preparation processes. The second group exhibition was in the Photography Centre Nykyaika, Tampere, in July 2019.
